Investment Process/How To Apply

The Fund follows the basic principles of solid venture capital investing - back the best ideas, develop working partnerships with strong management teams, enhance operational performance to maximize returns, and invest in a complementary portfolio of programs.

Consistent with this model, The Fund only invests in ventures that welcome input and guidance from us.

The Fund invests in ideas and people with the potential to impact a significant number of students in Chicago public schools. Programs must have excellent management teams with a passion for education and the wherewithal to execute the program's vision. We only make investments in programs that develop a significant partnership with Chicago Public Schools and our portfolio programs.

The Fund is committed to investing in programs with measurable educational outcomes and a clear impact on student achievement. We consider applications only from organizations that are tax-exempt under section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code or from governmental programs.

The Fund will not support:

Research, other than research that is a part of program implementation or evaluation
Scholarships to individual students, teachers or principals
Endowments or capital campaigns
Religious organizations for religious purposes
Private schools
Testimonial dinners, luncheons or benefit events

Our investment process is highly interactive. We will work with you to create a program plan, set benchmarks for funding, and develop a scorecard to guide evaluation efforts. We invite interested organizations to contact:
