Overview
Like a venture capital fund, over time we will create a series of funds where private-sector expertise and investment can make a significant impact on Chicago’s public schools.
Leadership Fund I recruited hundreds
of talented new teachers, launched a district-wide initiative
to identify master teachers, and emphasized principal development
programs that combine education and management models. From
March 2000 to March 2004, The Fund invested $10 million in strategic
management assistance and direct program grants into 13 programs
focused exclusively on building a pipeline of talented school
leaders.
On April 29, 2004, we launched our second,
$15 million fund, Leadership Fund II. This effort has continued
to focus on recruiting and developing skilled school leaders,
with an additional focus on:
 |
Deploying
teams of those leaders in the schools that need them the
most |
 |
Enhancing
the way those leaders use data to make decisions |
 |
Rewarding
results |
